WHAT ARE THE ODDS?
Physicists sometimes make wagers amongst themselves over matters and issues in physics. The two most famous sporting scientists are Stephen Hawking and Kip Thorne, but others include Leonard Susskind, and Gordan Kane. Marshall Barnes, of course won a public wager against Stephen Hawking over the existence of the Higgs Boson as Kane won the official private wager that Hawking acknowledged. Marshall's wager was due to the fact that Hawking publicly declared in 2008 that "he'd bet $100" that the Higgs wouldn't be found at the LHC in CERN and Marshall posted a public declaration of the acceptance of that bet when emails sent to Hawking and his assistance went unanswered. We wanted to know what the odds were in this contest between Mallett and Marshall and so contacted professionals in the odds making field and gave them all of the pertinent data, which includes the basic facts for each contestant on this web site.
Here are the answers for the issues we presented :
1. Who will be the first to have a working, small scale time machine?
Ronald L. Mallet +200
Marshall Barnes -300
2. Will there be a working, small scale time machine by 2014?
Yes +800
No -2000
3. Will Ronald Mallett or Marshall Barnes have a working, small scale time machine by 2014?

No -2500
4. Will the Verdrehung Fan(TM) of Marshall Barnes be the first machine successfully accomplishing the task of sending any kind of living creature out of our time and space?
